Victorian Hand-Painted Portrait Pendant - 9ct Gold, Birmingham 1850
A beautiful keepsake of the mid-19th century, this antique portrait pendant captures the delicate artistry and sentiment of the Victorian era. Crafted in 9ct gold, the frame bears full English hallmarks for Birmingham with a date letter that appears to be B for 1850, along with the maker’s mark GFB.
The miniature portrait is finely hand-painted on vellum. The portrait depicts a refined young lady in Edwardian style, her softly waved hair and high lace-collared blouse characteristic of the early 20th century. This suggests the artwork was created slightly later and set into the earlier Victorian mount, a practice not uncommon in sentimental jewellery. The painting is sealed within its gold frame, preserving its beauty for over 100 years.
This is a timeless piece of Victorian sentiment jewellery—at once wearable and highly collectible, offering both artistic craftsmanship and historical charm.
Condition: Presented in good antique condition. The portrait remains crisp with gentle wear to the glass surface, expected with age. There is a small chip to the back panel of glass, mostly concealed by the frame, and the pendant remains secure and wearable.
