Antique 9ct Gold Shell Cameo Brooch (c. 1880–1910)
The finely detailed cameo depicts a classical female profile, adorned with a laurel wreath, delicate curls, and a strand of pearls—symbols of victory, wisdom, and refinement. The carving is executed with exceptional depth and precision, showcasing the soft contrast between the creamy white relief and the warm caramel-coloured shell background.
Encased in a 9ct gold frame, the brooch is simple yet elegant, allowing the artistry of the cameo to take centre stage. A fine safety chain with a bar pin is attached, a feature often seen in quality antique brooches, designed to secure the piece when worn.
The cameo is hand signed on the back with initials "gis".
Condition: Excellent antique condition with no significant wear to the cameo. The shell carving remains crisp, with well-preserved details in the hair, facial features, and accessories. The 9ct gold frame has a soft patina, indicative of age, but remains structurally sound. The pin and clasp mechanism are in perfect working order, ensuring secure wear.
