Antique Intaglio Stickpin Depicting Hermes, Set in 9ct Gold
A finely carved antique intaglio stickpin featuring a classical profile of Hermes, the Greek god known as the messenger of the gods and patron of travel and commerce. The figure is identifiable by the winged helmet, a traditional attribute of Hermes, rendered with detailed craftsmanship in likely onyx or black obsidian, typical of the period.
The intaglio is set in a cushion-shaped bezel of 9ct gold, with clean, elegant lines that frame the carving without distraction. Both bezel and pin tests as 9ct gold. This type of classical motif was especially popular in late 19th to early 20th century gentlemen’s accessories, combining neoclassical inspiration with refined design.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. The intaglio remains sharply defined with no chips or cracks. The gold setting and pin are intact and well-preserved. Minor wear to the gold on the reverse, can be seen from the photos.
Pin Head: 2.0 x 1.7 x 0.6 cm
Pin Length: 7.2 cm
Note: Antique box is not included, the pin will be in a jewellery box.
