SOLD! This captivating Neoclassical miniature beautifully encapsulates the sentiments of remembrance and eternal love. The Sepia portrays a lady seated beneath a tree in grief and sombre reflection next to a tomb adorned with an urn. The urn signifies the vessel of the soul and the eternal nature of spiritual life. A cherubic Cupid delicately cradles a banner with the poignant inscription, "To Bless." Cupid, often depicted in mourning jewellery, symbolizes eternal love and the transcendence of death. The banner serves as a hopeful message, suggesting that love can endure beyond the confines of mortal existence.

The sepia-toned painting on this mourning brooch imparts a timeless quality to the piece. Sepia, derived from the ink sac of the common cuttlefish, was a favoured medium during the Georgian era. Its warm, brownish tones evoke a sense of antiquity and nostalgia, emphasizing the enduring nature of memories.

The inclusion of braided hairwork on the verso (back) of a sepia-painted mourning brooch adds an extra layer of sentimentality and personal connection to the piece. Hairwork was a common element in Georgian mourning jewellery, symbolizing a tangible and lasting connection to the deceased.

This exquisite Mourning Brooch/Pendant is presented in excellent condition. Sepia paintings appears to be done on vellum or parchment, providing a durable and long-lasting surface for detailed artwork. The painting is preserved under a rock crystal and rose gold frame.
