Edwardian Bevelled Rock Crystal Photo Locket in 14k Gold
A finely crafted circular photo locket, featuring a pair of thick, bevelled rock crystal panes set within a 14k yellow gold bezel. The clarity and precision of the crystal both magnify and protect the contents within—currently housing a pair of silver-tone initials, “L.L.” engraved on the inner face of the crystal. This piece exemplifies the elegant restraint and technical finesse characteristic of early 20th-century personal jewellery.
The minimalist gold frame is hinged to open, with a maker’s stamp located on the o-ring attached at the top. The style and construction suggest Edwardian origins, or a period closely inspired by its refined aesthetic. Notably, when worn with the hinge positioned on the left—as it naturally hangs from the o-ring—the plain, undecorated crystal side faces outward. This orientation gives the locket a quiet, understated presence from the front, while preserving the inscribed lettering on the reverse.
Designed as a sentimental keepsake, the locket was traditionally intended to hold a miniature photograph, a lock of hair, or small mementos. It may also be adapted as a shaker locket, to carry loose gemstones or initials for a more modern, personalised touch.
