An exquisite and poetic example of late Victorian jewellery, circa 1880, this beautifully crafted hinged bangle captures the passage of time through artful symbolism. Composed of sterling silver with a rich gold gilding, the bangle features three engraved panels that reflect a narrative of nature in motion.

The central panel depicts a serene nocturnal scene: a night owl in mid-flight beneath a crescent moon, surrounded by stars and a checkered sky motif—symbolising the stillness and mystery of night. On either side, birds are shown in graceful flight within what appears to be a stylised bamboo grove, evoking daylight and a sense of movement and vitality. A delicate butterfly, lightly hovering in one of the side panels, adds a further layer of life and transformation.

Each element has been finely hand-engraved with remarkable attention to detail—from the feathers and wings to the delicate foliage and textured sky. The bangle retains a beautiful, age-appropriate patina, enhancing its golden glow and antique charm.

Stamped for sterling silver and presented in excellent antique condition, this is a rare and meaningful jewel—ideal for collectors of narrative Victorian jewellery or anyone drawn to symbolic, nature-inspired adornment.
